After the second stop of the Swatch Freeride World Tour in Chamonix, I was off to Lech em Arlberg, Austria with professional skier Lorriane Huber who is also one of my good friends.
I’ve been hearing this whole season that the best place to be is in the Alberg so I jumped at the opportunity to go skiing there for a few days. For those who don’t know, The Alberg is where I first ever put on a pair of skis and had the joyous moments of sliding on snow. I learnt to ski in 1990 when I was five years old so now at the age of 26 it was nice to go back to my roots, where I first skied and am now hooked to this expensive sport.
The first two days in the Alberg we went shooting with Austrian photographer Hanno Mackowitz. We skied this little resort down in the Valley called Sonnenkoff that has only 8 lifts. So a resort like this is still a HUGE playground for me! It makes me laugh when they explain to me that this place is small.
We had amazing snow ( a lot better than in Chamonix) and worked hard for two days dealing with a lot of flat light but managed to get some amazing shots thanks to our photographer.
Day three we skied in Lorrianes home mountain Lech. We woke to a blue bird morning and skied some nice long pow runs and ended a day with a run called ‘Hull’ which means hell in English. It was nice to still be able to ski untracked snow after 3 days of good weather. Apparently it can get pretty tracked out in the area.
Then it was off to ISPO for a day catching up with sponsors and friends. My favourite place to be was definitely at the Volkl Marker stand with free food and beer flowing all day! Now I’m finally back in Frisco, Colorado after 13 days in Europe. I’ve got two weeks of halfpipe training before I head back to Chamonix to film with my sister Maria Kuzma.
Keep you posted!
